Men’s Health Assessments
When feeling unwell, too many men suffer in silence instead of heading to the doctor. Whatever symptoms you’re faced with, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with one of our bulk billed doctors for a check-up. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
General Health Checks – Men are more likely to be impacted by serious conditions such as heart disease and cancer than women. That’s why it’s always worthwhile to have a health assessment completed to ensure you’re not at risk of developing serious health problems.
In most cases, a men’s health check may involve examining pre-existing health issues, updating your medical history and providing information and advice about how to improve your health. These health checks can also involve measuring your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and fat levels.
Along with general health assessments, there are particular appointments all men should be aware of.
Prostate Checks – Each day, about 35 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Australia, which is why prostate screening is a necessary part of health assessments for men. Prostate cancer screening is recommended for all men aged 50 or older. However, if you are at very high risk of developing prostate cancer, screening should start at age 40.
Testicular Checks – Every man should be conducting regular testicle checks at home from age 17 or 18 to ensure there are no unusual thickenings or lumps in the testicles. This helps to reduce the risk of testicular cancer and other testicular conditions. If you have any concerns or if you’ve come across any abnormalities, make an appointment with one of our doctors for an examination.
Men’s Sexual Health Checks
Sexual health problems can have a big impact on your self-esteem, well-being and overall happiness, however too many men avoid speaking with their doctor about these concerns.
Talking about your sexual health with a doctor shouldn’t be daunting. At Pulse Medical, our clinic is an understanding and professional environment where you can openly discuss any sexual health concerns you may have.
Some of the most common men’s sexual health concerns we address include, but are not limited to:
- HIV and STD prevention and screening
- Erectile dysfunction
- Ejaculation disorders
- Inhibited sexual desire
- Testosterone deficiency
Your men’s sexual health appointment may vary depending on your symptoms and diagnosis. Most appointments will only involve asking questions and a visual examination, however during an STD check-up for example, a urine test, blood test or an anal, urethral or throat swab may be required.
Our GP’s are here to answer any men’s sexual health related questions patients may have, and offer diagnosis and treatment for symptoms related to sexual health problems.
Men’s Mental Health
Too many men bottle things up when they’re feeling down, which is why mental health for men is such an important topic to cover.
The suicide rate for men is 3½ times higher than women, and 1 in 2 Australian men have had a mental health problem at some point in their life. It’s important for men to know that help is available. Whatever stressors you may be facing in life, there’s no need to be silent and strong if you’re being impacted by depression or anxiety.
At Pulse Medical, our GP’s and highly experienced social worker will work in partnership with you to find and work through the root of any mental health problems you may be experiencing. Whether you’re suffering from a serious mental condition or you just need someone to talk to about any life problems affecting your mental health, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with one of our GP’s.
